Tocopherol (Vitamin E) oil is a bit of a "powerhouse" carrier, but it works differently than your average coconut or jojoba oil. Because it’s so thick and sticky, using it correctly is all about the ratio.
How to use it effectively:
-
As a Booster (Most Common): Instead of using it as the only carrier, add a few drops to a thinner oil like Sweet Almond or Grapeseed. This makes the blend easier to spread while giving you all the skin-healing benefits.
-
As a Natural Preservative: Essential oils can go "off" (oxidise) over time. Adding about 0.5% Tocopherol to your blend helps keep the essential oils fresh and stable for much longer.
-
For Targeted Treatment: You can use it at higher concentrations (up to 20%) for specific needs like softening scars or treating very dry patches, but it will feel heavy on the skin.
Quick Tips for Blending:
-
Texture: If it’s too thick to pour, warm the bottle gently in your hands first.
- Absorption: It takes a long time to sink in. If you're making a face oil, keep the Tocopherol content low (around 1%) so your skin doesn't feel greasy.
